Introduction
As your website grows, managing your blog becomes just as important as managing your products or services. A well-organized blog helps build your web presence, improve SEO, and showcase your expertise to visitors.
In this practical tutorial, I’ll show you how I manage my blog inside Shopify by creating custom blog templates, custom blog post templates, and displaying the latest articles directly on my portfolio page.
These are practical skills I’ve learned through years of building websites and online businesses, and I’m sharing them with you for free to help you create a professional online presence.
Why Customize Your Blog?
Most Shopify stores use the default blog layout, but creating custom templates gives you more control over the design and user experience.
Benefits include:
* Better branding
* Improved readability
* More professional appearance
* Better SEO structure
* Easier content organization
Step 1: Create a New Blog Template
Inside Shopify:
1. Go to Online Store → Themes.
2. Click Customize.
3. Open the template selector.
4. Choose Blogs.
5. Click Create Template.
6. Give your template a name.
Now you can customize the layout specifically for your blog page.
For example, you can add:
* Featured image
* Author information
* Categories
* Newsletter signup
* Social sharing buttons
Step 2: Create a New Blog Post Template
You can also create a separate template for individual blog posts.
1. Open the template selector.
2. Choose Blog Posts.
3. Click Create Template.
4. Name your template.
This allows you to create unique layouts for articles.
You might add:
* Author profile
* Related posts
* Call-to-action buttons
* Contact section
* Portfolio links
This creates a more engaging reading experience.
Step 3: Assign Templates
Once your templates are created:
* Assign the Blog Template to your blog page.
* Assign the Blog Post Template to your articles.
This helps maintain consistency across your website.
Step 4: Add a “Latest Posts” Section to Your Portfolio
One of my favorite ways to showcase content is by displaying recent blog articles directly on my portfolio page.
To do this:
1. Open the Shopify Theme Editor.
2. Navigate to your Portfolio page.
3. Click Add Section.
4. Select Blog Posts or Featured Blog Posts (depending on your theme).
5. Choose your blog source.
6. Set the number of posts to display.
Now visitors can immediately see your latest content without searching for it.
Why Add Latest Posts?
A “Latest Posts” section helps:
* Keep your portfolio fresh
* Showcase your expertise
* Improve website engagement
* Increase page views
* Encourage visitors to explore your content
Every new article automatically appears on your portfolio page.
Final Thoughts
A blog should not be hidden inside your website. It should be integrated into your overall web presence strategy.
By creating custom blog templates, custom article templates, and displaying your latest posts on your portfolio page, you create a more professional website and make it easier for visitors to discover your content.
This is exactly the type of practical skill I share on this channel as part of helping people build their web presence, create content online, and turn their knowledge into opportunities.
